BDI (Becker Designed Inc) was founded in 1984 by Bill Becker. Bill, who still remains the company’s CEO and design director, began creating a line of contemporary occasional tables in his apartment in Columbia, Md. Soon he was assembling, packaging and shipping the goods from a 400-square-foot warehouse in Silver Spring, Md.
For its first few years, the company was known mainly for its occasional tables, a largely contemporary, designer-friendly line made with mixed media elements including wood, metal and glass.
Over the years, BDI has evolved into other categories including home theater and home office furniture. It also designs modular office and entertainment systems that include shelving and console units for living room and dedicated office use.
